What skills can I gain?
English is not only a subject that will open doors for communication, but it also links to various exciting careers. Some skills that you develop in English are:
• Communication Skills: Learn how to communicate with others in several ways via writing and speaking and listening.
• Critical Thinking: To be able to use inference in daily situations and solve problems using logic.
• Reading and Writing: Being able to read a variety of forms and write to different people will be beneficial for managing bills, appointments and even future families.
So what comes next?
English Language will develop your skills and love for reading, as well as allowing you to explore many cultures, eras and topics through novels, poetry and non-fiction texts.
Our aim is for you to leave Keystone as a confident reader, writer and orator. It’s important that you know how to access the real world and feel positive about being able to be successful adults.
For those who love studying English Language and want to take this further, there are options to study the subject at A Level in college, and even go onto university where you can complete a degree. There are so many amazing jobs linked to English Language; from journalism, to acting, to presenting, editing, teaching, and even being a youtuber!
What is interesting about English?
English at Keystone Academy has been developed so that pupils learn about the wider world through a rich and varied curriculum. It is an interesting and important subject to learn in as it not only builds on our core skills of reading, writing and speaking and listening, it also allows us to connect with others, discover new stories and become a better communicator.
Some of the interesting parts of studying English are:
• Engaging topics, texts and poetry: this will allow pupils to learn about different cultures, points in history and different people.
• Being creative: having opportunities to create vivid and imaginative stories where anything can happen!
• Building communication: using our Voice21 talk tactics, we can become better orators and listeners to be able to feel confident in communicating with others. This will help us to build and grow friendships with others.
• Thinking skills: by discussing and looking at various forms of writing, we can build our inference skills and our thinking skills to build our understanding and ability to argue and discuss topics with others.
